WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump says he has directed the Treasury Division to cease minting new pennies, citing the price of producing the one-cent coin.

“For a lot too lengthy the US has minted pennies which accurately price us greater than 2 cents. That is so wasteful!” Trump wrote in a put up Sunday evening on his Fact Social website. “I’ve instructed my Secretary of the US Treasury to cease producing new pennies.”

Trump’s new administration has been sharply centered on reducing prices, focusing on whole businesses and huge swaths of the federal workforce for dismissal.

“Let’s rip the waste out of our nice nations price range, even when it’s a penny at a time,” he wrote.

Trump despatched the message after attending the primary half of the Tremendous Bowl in New Orleans.
