Police issued a neighborhood alert after a string of smash-and-grab robberies over the weekend in Norwood Park, Union Ridge, Portage Park, Irving Park, Jefferson Park and Bucktown.
In all eight incidents, two to a few males — sporting darkish clothes, face masks and gloves — smash the entrance glass door or a facet window of a enterprise and take ATMs and money drawers, police mentioned. They then flee in a dark-colored or silver sedan.
The robberies occurred on the following occasions and locations:
- 5300 block of North Cumberland Avenue on Sunday at 4:21 a.m.
- 7000 block of West Higgins Avenue on Sunday at 4:34 a.m.
- 4700 block of North Milwaukee Avenue on Sunday at 4:44 a.m.
- 3400 block of West Irving Park Highway on Sunday at 4:50 a.m.
- 5300 block of North Milwaukee Avenue on Monday at 3:05 a.m.
- 5300 block of North Milwaukee Avenue on Monday at 3:07 a.m.
- 4300 block of North Elston Avenue on Monday at 4:04 a.m.
- 2600 block of North Elston Avenue on Monday at 4:27 a.m.
An unrelated smash and seize occurred in Lakeview within the 500 block of West Diversey Avenue at 4 a.m. Monday, police mentioned. In that incident, a number of individuals broke the window to a grocery retailer, tied a sequence round an ATM and pulled it out with a purple SUV and fled.
Nobody is in custody in any of the above incidents, that are beneath investigation, police mentioned.
