    Notre Dame reopens 5 years after devastating fire : The Picture Show : NPR

    The bells of Notre Dame Cathedral rang on Saturday night in Paris for the primary time since a fireplace devastated the Paris landmark in 2019.

    Paris Archbishop Laurent Ulrich started the ceremony by knocking thrice on the cathedral’s door along with his employees, known as a crozier, which was created from one of many burned beams of the cathedral’s roof.

    The ceremony to mark the cathedral’s return to spiritual providers was attended by French President Emmanuel Macron and a whole lot of dignitaries, together with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, first woman Jill Biden, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and the U.Okay.’s Prince William.

    The cathedral’s restoration and return to service after 5 years has been a hit for Macron, who has had recent political difficulties.
