    GUATEMALA CITY — No less than 55 persons are lifeless after their bus plunged right into a gorge and landed beneath a bridge Monday on the outskirts of Guatemala’s capital.

    Investigators from the general public ministry stated that there have been 53 our bodies recovered on the scene and the San Juan de Dios Hospital confirmed that two passengers introduced there had additionally died.

    Firefighting spokesperson Edwin Villagran stated a multi-vehicle crash despatched the bus off the highway and into the steep gorge beneath the bridge earlier than daybreak. Others had been critically injured.

    The bus fell 115 toes right into a sewage-polluted stream. It landed the other way up and half-submerged.

    The bus had come from Progreso, northeast of the capital. Volunteer firefighting spokesman Óscar Sánchez stated youngsters had been among the many victims.

    President Bernardo Arévalo provided his condolences and declared a day of nationwide mourning.
