    Biden pardons Virginia House Speaker Don Scott, Black nationalist : NPR

    On his last full day in workplace, President Biden pardoned Virginia Home Speaker Don Scott — who was convicted of a nonviolent drug offense in 1994 — and posthumously pardoned Black nationalist Marcus Garvey — who was convicted of mail fraud within the Twenties and impressed civil rights leaders like Malcolm X.

    Three others additionally acquired pardons, together with advocates for immigrant rights, gun violence prevention, and legal justice reform.

    Scott, the primary Virginia Home of Delegates speaker, served seven years in jail following his federal drug conviction. Since his launch, Scott grew to become a lawyer, obtained elected to the Virginia Home of Delegates and have become the primary Black speaker of the Virginia Home of Delegates in 2024.

    On Sunday, Scott thanked Biden for the pardon and his “dedication to second possibilities.”

Peoples was sentenced to 111 years in jail for robbing banks in Indiana, and had already served greater than 20 years in jail.
