The place to be this weekend is downtown for Springfield’s fashionable, annual Fats Ass 5K & Avenue Get together for Charity. This hilarious downtown spectacle, born in 2008, simply retains getting higher, donating greater than $2 million to space charities. The occasion begins Friday with the Craft Beer and Cigar Competition that includes meals, drinks and music by Sushi Roll and Lick Creek. The 5K race begins at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sixth and Adams streets with a route dotted with beer, corndog, doughnut and ice cream stops for runners and spectators alike. Runners are inspired to put on costumes for the race, which isn’t timed. Wednesday was the final day to enroll in the race, sadly, however even watching it happen might be fulfilling. Plus, the race might be adopted by a road celebration at Seventh and Washington streets that includes stay music by Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters at midday.
