    Judge says Trump administration is not in full compliance with order on spending : NPR

    A federal choose in Rhode Island has discovered that the Trump administration has continued to improperly freeze some federal funds, regardless of a temporary restraining order issued late final month blocking its efforts to pause funds for grants and different federal packages.

    In a five-page order issued Monday, U.S. District Courtroom Choose John McConnell, Jr. wrote that the administration, in a number of situations, has continued “to improperly freeze federal funds and refused to renew disbursement of appropriated federal funds.”

    The Trump administration has mentioned the freeze is important in an effort to evaluation federal funding to ensure it aligns with the president’s agenda. However in his order, McConnell mentioned the freeze was “probably unconstitutional and has brought on and continues to trigger irreparable hurt to an unlimited portion of this nation.”

    Monday’s order got here in response to a lawsuit introduced by attorneys basic in 22 states and the District of Columbia. In his choice, McConnell ordered the administration to “instantly restore frozen funding” and “instantly finish any federal funding pause” that impacts the challengers.

    The case is one among two lawsuits filed in opposition to the administration in response to the tried funding pause, initially detailed in a memo by the Workplace of Administration and Funds in late January.

    Along with the order in Rhode Island, a federal judge in Washington, D.C. has additionally issued a brief restraining order in opposition to the administration — blocking the memo from taking impact and barring the administration from carrying it out “below a distinct identify.”
